A score in this area demonstrates a generally loyal employees with some degree of Trust and Loyalty between them and the leadership within the organization. Most organizations have a formal employee evaluation process and a way to both understand and evaluate their performance in retaining employees.

Organizations also utilize this evaluation information for creating better processes and tools to support their employee base. There may also be a formalized process to evaluate and improve the loyalty and relationships with partners, suppliers and other key stakeholders.

Finally, this indicates some degree of Trust is established between at least some of the employees and the leadership. However, we rarely see a process in place that goes as deep as understanding the Promises your employees want from you and the ability to integrate these into the organization. This could be a great addition to the above successes and serve to further lower retention and increase employee loyalty.

A score in this range indicates that there is at least a recognition for the importance of and understanding of employee loyalty and retention. It indicates there are some programs underway but they may not be fully developed or integrated throughout the organization.

There is generally some level of employee loyalty programs in place and an acceptance to their importance. We would recommend taking a deeper look at the evaluation and assessment programs and strengthen these to gain an in depth understanding of what your employees feel are critical components to earning their loyalty.

We would also recommend taking the information that is collected and have a Promises discussion with your employees so they understand your goal is to better understand what would help increase retention and improve overall loyalty. This also needs to be built into the hiring process and the way employees are rewarded and measured.

A score in the bottom range almost always indicates an organization is in trouble with employee loyalty and retention. This should be a warning sign that there is danger ahead in terms of both building employee loyalty and stopping employee defections.

We strongly recommend starting with some basic "stop gaps" that will help put you on the road to building loyalty. Start by engaging in a process to understand the key Promises your employees would like you to make and keep to them. This will give you tremendous insight into what they are evaluating you and the organization on and what components are needed to start building loyalty.

After the Promises have been identified, establish a committee to better understand how to start incorporating as many of these Promises into the processes of serving your employees. This would also include developing an ongoing evaluation process to be used in the future. The key at this stage is start basic but show a plan of engagement to help address the employee retention and loyalty issues. If this does not occur, you may see your "best" employees defecting. The general rule is the best employees are the first to leave because they always have options so look for this warning sign.
